Gerald Peterson has been encouraging families and promoting good character since 1998. As a character consultant he has trained families, schools, businesses, and government agencies throughout South Florida. Gerald holds a degree in Elementary Education and was a teacher and coach for fifteen years prior to launching Character Pitch. He lives in Fort Myers with his wife, Cynthia, and their eleven children.

Hi, my name is Gerry Peterson and this is my family.  As the father of eleven children I have been motivated to learn more about developing good character and building foundations for success.  With good character as a guide, I’m striving to train my children to make right choices, seize opportunities, and build strong relationships.

From my experience at home, along with fifteen years as an elementary teacher, I’ve concluded that the primary reasons for failure or success were linked to personal character.  In most cases it was not a lack of cognitive ability, but rather a lack of character that brought about conflict, frustration, and ultimate failure in the classroom.  In contrast, good character, demonstrated through qualities such as diligence, initiative, self-control, and forgiveness, is consistently found at the root of achievement and success.

Although I could see that character was crucial to success, I was unaware of resources or training that I could utilize in developing these foundational qualities.  Character development was not included in my college coursework, and I didn't know how to practically encourage my children or students in good character.  My efforts to bring about behavioral and attitudinal change were directed at surface issues rather than the root of poor character.

In 1995 I was introduced to an organization that provided the training and resources that I had been seeking.  Character First!™, headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma was developing character building resources for every sector of society including schools, businesses, and government agencies.

After receiving business and education certification through Character First! I determined to focus my efforts and energy on building a strong foundation of character in my own life and that of my family. Eventually, I began to understand of the principles governing character development, along with many specific character qualities that I could apply in my own life.  In 1997 I resigned my teaching position and launched Character Pitch, Inc. 

Character Pitch, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to strengthening individuals, families, organizations, and communities by promoting and encouraging good character.  I operate as an independent, authorized Character First! trainer,  consultant, and resource provider.
